My baby is almost 2!

I just cannot believe it. He'll be 2 on Sunday. In the last week he just seems to have gotten so much older looking. He has obviously grown, his feet are too big for his shoes again (which is funny because last year it didn't seem like his feet would ever grow!) and he is talking more. I still love it when he comes running in to me and says "My mommy!" He and Zachary are getting along even better than before, I think a lot has to do with Kaleb actually understanding what Zachary wants him to do when they are playing and Kaleb being able to tell Zachary what he wants or doesn't want to do. Why is it that a few years ago, 16 years seemed so long and now, 16 years seems like it will be here tomorrow. My baby will be 18 before I know it. On one hand I can't wait to find out the type of person he'll grow up to be but on the other hand I don't want him to ever stop running in to a room yelling "My Mommy!"

ETA: Here's a picture of Kaleb eating his birthday cake, eating a banana right after waking up on his birthday (yes, he still LOVES bananas) and a video of his first time down the slide, he's just growing up too fast.

Where'd spring go?

It was so nice here just a few days ago, today we're having problems getting into the mid 50's and there is snow in the forecast for the next 2 days! Hopefully this is the last of the cold weather this year. We do need the rain but I do believe it's possible for it to rain and NOT be under 70 degrees but then I could be mistaken.

Kaleb has started saying a few more words. I still think he is behind where he should be but I also know his ears are terrible right now so I'm sure he'll catch up. He was pointing to something and saying "purple" this morning, and he was right! He also consistently gets blue and brown right and I'm secretly hoping he never calls Zachary by his name, I love that he says "Zaza".

Kaleb is starting to get too smart for his own good! Last night I said time for bed and he said "no" and climbed up on Jerry's lap and laid on his chest and pretended to be falling asleep. Little bugger.

Zachary is starting to not be as whinny but it's still enough to drive you insane some days. He is not understanding that he only needs to ask/say something once, he'll repeat something until you think you've gone crazy even if you acknowledge or answer him. I know I'll miss these years when they've gone by but right now it's a little, ok, a lot annoying. I'm glad he's a good kid tho or we might have had to look at the exchange policy :)

Dinosaurs!!!

This is the picture that I took last weekend at the Dinosaur exhibit at the OKC Zoo. To set it up: the tiny dinosaurs in the back ground were the only ones we saw move or make noise prior to this picture. Just before this picture this dinosaur had it's head lower (about even with Kaleb) and was not moving or making noise. I pulled the wagon in front of the dino and the boys were smiling and I was about to take the picture when the dinosaur came to life and ROARED and started moving, both boys looked over their shoulders at the thing and started crying, Kaleb jumped up and reached for me then when he saw me with the camera still in hand turned toward Jerry, who waited until I was able to snap the picture before he picked up Kaleb. Yes, we're mean but this picture is hi.lar.i.ous! I don't think we'll be visiting the dinosaurs again any time soon if the boys have anything to say about it :-)

Update on Kaleb: he has another double ear infection and croup so he is back on antibiotics and the ENT appointment on the 6th can't come soon enough!

Kaleb's sick again...

Daycare called at around 3pm today, Kaleb woke up from nap with a temp of 102.7 *sigh*. I'm sure it's another ear infection since he's been off antibiotics for all of 4 days now, at least he can go to school if the doctor says it isn't contagious. I'm glad I went ahead and made the ENT appointment instead of waiting for the referral from the pediatrician, I'm sure tomorrow she'll suggest going to see him. So we'll probably be back at Baptist in April for another tube surgery - at least we know what to expect this time...

Zachary has tubes...

The surgery was a success. We had to be at the hospital early. We waited in the pre-op area for over 2 hours, part way through the wait they gave Zachary some meds and they made him very loopy, it was funny. After surgery, which literally lasted about 10 minutes, he was in a lot of pain but after a dose of Tylenol he seemed to get much better. He hasn't had any problems since.

Kaleb on the other hand has been quite a handful the last couple of days. No real idea why but he's been very whinny and cranky. We're getting his birthday party planned and are almost done with that, except of course for the gift shopping, need to get on that.

We've got less than 45 days until our trip to California, I think the boys will really enjoy it and I can't wait to get out of Oklahoma for a little while.

Beautiful Days

Today and yesterday were perfect weather! Yesterday when we got home we cooked burgers and hot dogs on the grill and ate outside, the boys loved it! Then we went to the park and fed the ducks and walked for about 20 minutes then let the boys play on the swings/slides for 20 minutes. Then we came home and the boys took baths and we all went to bed. Tonight we're planning more of the same. 80 degrees with just the slightest breeze, the trees and grass and flowers are blooming and the sky is clear blue, it's just too nice to even eat inside; I almost wish I didn't have a window in my office so I didn't know how beautiful it was outside while I'm stuck inside.

I've been noticing the last few days how non-babyish Kaleb looks now. His feet aren't baby feet anymore. His legs are skinny, no more baby fat rolls on them. His face doesn't even have that baby look anymore. He'll be 2 in just over 2 weeks and I cannot believe it. The fact that Zachary will be 4 shortly after that is not setting well with me yet either. It just doesn't seem possible that Zachary has been around for 4 years! And just a year ago, 12 short months, 52 flying by weeks Kaleb wasn't even walking yet, yesterday he was running around the track at the park looking like a mini track runner. This is why it is so hard for me to refuse to carry him whenever he wants, which is always, I'll miss it when I don't have anyone to carry anymore. Yesterday Zachary informed me that he is too big to be carried and that he would hold my hand but didn't want to be picked up.

Why the blog name change?

It dawned on me the other day that Zachary's glasses are always so smudged and that trying to figure out life was a lot like trying to look thru smudged glasses - not everything is totally clear all the time, the edges aren't always crisp and clean, the lines blur together, so...the name change. This is our life, through smudged glasses and this is my place to talk/write through things and try to unsmudge it :)

ENT...

So I cannot get Kaleb into the ENT until April 6th, oh well. It will be much easier to deal with one kid at a time on the day of surgery anyhow so we'll go with it. I just hope his ear infection clears up quickly, he just seems so miserable :(

Kaleb Speak

I have Zachary's words listed so I thought I'd start a list for Kaleb since he is finally saying some words.

Zaza = Zachary
Melmo = Elmo
Mamower = lawn mower or motorcycle (depends on which he sees at that time he says it)
WooWoo = police car/ ambulance / firetruck
Choochoo = train (of course!)

Kaleb is still sick

He's not throwing up anymore but his ear is bothering him still. Zachary and I did not get sick from sharing the snow cone on Friday night, yay! I'm going to call the ENT today about Kaleb, I think 3 months straight with an ear infection is a bit much. He is on a strong antibiotic this time to try to get rid of it but I think we should see the ENT anyway. I mean really, 3 months? I love the boys' pediatrician but I think she waits too long for some things like referring to different specialists.

A date with Elmo...

The boys and I saw Elmo live last night (with Aunt Rachel, Kara and Timothy). They got big bird toys and we shared a snow cone...sounded great at the time.
Just before the show Kaleb had yet another doctor appointment to have his ears checked, still infected. I'll make an appointment for him with the ENT on Monday, hopefully they'll squeeze me in so if he also needs tubes I can schedule him for the same day as Zachary. Kaleb was also put on a strong antibiotic to try to get rid of the EI, well, he threw up last night, a side effect of the medication; or so we thought.
This morning he was throwing up all morning, he went down for a nap at around 12:30, it's now 4:15 and he's still sleeping. It's probably a virus that has been going around, so now the snow cone sharing doesn't sound like it was such a good idea but time will tell...

Tubes update

Zachary is scheduled for tubes on March 20th. The surgery will be at Baptist. The only thing I am concerned with is that they will not use an IV but rather a mask to put him under anesthesia. Zachary does NOT like masks and I think this will freak him out and cause nightmares for years. Hopefully the hospital will listen to me and use the IV instead, the kid doesn't mind needles but masks are a no-no.

Both boys are doing wonderfully otherwise. Still need to schedule Kaleb for his ear recheck.
